黒川紀章のメタボリズム建築を、解体前の姿で作りました。竣工時の白ではなく、50年ぶんの汚れと補修が積み重なった状態——カプセルごとに色が違い、錆が垂れ、窓の内側の様子もひとつずつ違います。

屋上の水槽、コアの側面、点灯するカプセル。ニュース報道で「精巧に再現」として取り上げられたのは、この個体差の部分でした。

Kisho Kurokawa's Metabolist landmark, modelled as it stood just before demolition — not the white of 1972, but fifty years of staining and patch repair. Every capsule is a slightly different colour, rust runs down the cores, and no two window interiors are the same.

The rooftop tank, the flanks of the service cores, the lit capsules. When national news covered the exhibition, it was this variation between capsules that they singled out.

「日本一のモグラ駅」。地上に三角屋根の駅舎があり、下り線のホームは486段の階段を降りた地下70mにあります。

この駅を作るとき、駅舎だけを作っても意味がありません。作るべきは地上と地下の垂直の距離そのものだと考え、背の高い箱の上に駅舎、下にトンネル内のホームを収めた縦長のモジュールにしました。ホームの照明も点灯します。

Japan's deepest station. A small A-framed building stands at the surface; the down platform sits 70 m below it, at the foot of 486 steps.

Modelling the building alone would have missed the point. What had to be built was the vertical distance itself — so the module is a tall box with the station on top and the tunnel platform inside the base. The platform lighting works.

川崎の埋立地、神奈川臨海鉄道の走る一帯。日本で「工場夜景」というジャンルを生んだ場所です。

手前に防護柵と錆びたレール、中景に本体、背景に遠く退いていく塔と煙突。三層に光を置くことで、写真に撮ったときに実景と見分けがつかなくなる——そこを狙って組んでいます。この作品のパーツは細部が細かすぎるため、製品化はしていません。

Reclaimed land in Kawasaki, where the Kanagawa Rinkai freight railway runs. This is the place that gave Japan the genre of kojo yakei — the factory night view.

A fence and rusted rail in front, the plant in the middle, towers and stacks receding into the dark behind. The light is arranged in three layers so that a photograph of it cannot easily be told from the real place. The parts in this piece are too fine to reproduce, so they are not sold.

山口県周南の石油化学コンビナートがモチーフです。実物どおりに置くと模型は意外とスカスカに見えるため、構成は密度を高めて組み直しています。

錆びた貯蔵タンク、球形タンク、白い立形タンク、そして手前を横切る複数の線路。販売しているストラクチャー——蒸留塔、タンク、冷却塔、配管ラック、タービン設備——は、このモジュールのために設計したものです。

Modelled on the petrochemical complex at Shunan in Yamaguchi. Laid out exactly as the real plant is, a model looks surprisingly empty — so the composition is rebuilt at a higher density.

Rusted storage tanks, spheres, a white vertical tank, and several tracks crossing the foreground. The structures I sell — columns, tanks, cooling towers, pipe racks, turbine sets — were all designed for this module.

秋葉原・御徒町の模型店「ミニチュア人形のYFS」の店内固定レイアウトの一部として納品した作品です。単体のジオラマではなく、列車が走る常設レイアウトに組み込まれています。

アーチダムの湾曲、天端の放流口、下流面を横切る段状の点検通路。堤体の直下には河原と、実物と同じエメラルド色の水。峡谷には赤いトラス橋を架け、背景には立山の稜線を置いています。

A commissioned piece, built into the permanent running layout at the YFS model shop in Akihabara / Okachimachi — not a standalone diorama, but part of a layout with trains on it.

The curve of the arch, the crest outlets, the tiered inspection walkways across the downstream face. Below the dam, a gravel bed and the same emerald water as the real river. A red truss bridge crosses the gorge, with the Tateyama ridge behind.

名の知られた駅ではありません。橙色の瓦屋根、青い跨線橋、待合の掲示。日本のどこにでもあった、ごく普通の駅を、あった通りに残しています。

Not a famous station. An orange tiled roof, a blue footbridge, notices in the waiting room. An entirely ordinary station, of the kind that used to be everywhere in Japan — recorded exactly as it stood.
